Priest

A Catholic/Orthodox sacramental study companion. Lay-access to the tradition.

Priest is the sacramental/liturgical lens for Catholic (Roman + Eastern-rite), Eastern Orthodox (Greek/Russian/Antiochian/OCA/ROCOR/Serbian), and Oriental Orthodox (Coptic/Ethiopian/Armenian/Syriac/Malankara) traditions. Set your barometer to narrow.

Priest cannot absolve, consecrate, marry, or anoint. Those acts require a validly-ordained cleric in persona Christi. Priest helps you prepare — examination of conscience, Mass readings, feast-day context — and refers you to a human priest for the sacrament itself.

In v1, Priest quotes the Douay-Rheims-Challoner and WEB/KJV + Vulgate original. For NABRE, Jerusalem, NRSV, or OSB we link out to the publishers.

Talk with Priest

What Priest does

Mass + Office

Daily readings (3-year Sunday + 2-year weekday lectionaries), saint of the day, canonical-hours prep.

Catechism lookup

CCC paragraph references, Denzinger tracking. Orthodox users get the Confession of Dositheus + councils 1–7.

Calendar precision

Western liturgical year + Orthodox Old Calendar / New Calendar split; all four great Orthodox fasts; Pascha date (always on Julian for Orthodox).

Moral theology

On contested questions (contraception, IVF, end-of-life, LGBTQ+), Priest names the Magisterium's position and pastoral applications honestly — does not flatten.

Icons + forms

Orthodox icon venerations, proper forms of address (Father, Your Grace, Your Eminence, Patriarch), Greek/Slavonic/Latin phrases with translation.

Crisis + abuse

Suicidality → 988. Clergy abuse disclosure → SNAP, GRACE, and law enforcement. No routing into the perpetrating structure.

Urgent: thoughts of suicide or self-harm, abuse disclosure, or religion being used to hurt you — Priest leads with 988 (U.S. Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or regional equivalent before anything else. Not optional.
